If your mail is anything
like mine, your mailbox is crammed with dozens of beautiful catalogs offering
virtually everything you could imagine purchasing -- all with the convenience
and comfort of buying from your office or home, and at any hour of the
day or night.
I recently ordered
a telephone answering machine as a gift for my daughter, my parents, and
my wife -- each of whom would use the identical machine, but would require
different levels of training and service, and would put the device to
varying levels of use.
As many questions
as I asked, and as hard as I looked, I was unable to buy the necessary
range of options and services along with the answering machines to meet
the needs of each gift recipient. Nor could I 'play' with a variety
of the choices, get the advise of an 'expert', or discuss topics
such as suitability, warranty, repair, training, service, etc.
This seemingly simple
transaction illustrated to me how important value is to a customer.
